Antique Baltic eggyolk amber necklace dating from about 1900-1920.  This amber is named for its similarity to egg yolks and likely originated in Latvia.  The stylized leaf shapes are connected with silver wire work typical of that location and time period. Genuine amber is the fossilized resin of a now extinct pine tree which grew about 40 million years ago when dinosaurs walked the earth. To be considered true amber it must be fossilized. This necklace has a drop length of about 18 inches. The largest piece of amber measures 2 inches long. Amber is an almost magical substance. Touching amber is like touching time itself
