Jade Dipper Pendant, Hetian Nephrite, Qing Dynasty
A lovely Hetian nephrite jade water dipper which can also be worn as a pendant necklace. A lotus leaf curves up to form the pot with a lotus pod on the side and vines on the bottom. Chinese scholars paid tribute to scholarship and jade by surrounding themselves with beautiful desk objects made of jade. They used a form of dry cake ink which needed to be moistened with water and so lovely works of jade art were made to hold the water. When the brush was not in use it could be placed on a jade brush rest. This piece is approximately 2 inches in diameter. It has a beautiful fatty luster and silky feel. An adjustable length neck cord is included on request. A lovely handmade piece of jade with historical significance.
